Meskilk Tia'm
Background: (How this knife & raffle came to be)
"Meskilk Tia'm" (pronounced mes-kilk di-aam) means "The Big Moose" in the language of the Mi'kmaq First Nation's People's here on Cape Breton Island. The Moose antler used in this piece was given to me by a member of the Membertou band.
This is the first piece I have worked on in three months. In July 2013, I had spinal surgery. The recovery has been slow and difficult and I still have very little strength in my hands, and I'm unable to put in a full day's work.... but, I'm getting there. So, to mark my "comeback", I put together the largest knife I've made to date. To mark this occasion I've decided to offer this piece up for raffle. For the Winner*:
The winner receives the custom knife “Meskilk Tia'm”, its sheath, shoulder strap & wrist lanyard, as well as a signed certificate of authenticity. Pictures of the knife in progress will also be made available to the winner. Prize includes warranty on craftsmanship and insured shipping within continental North America. Total Value: $1000
